I. Visitor Visa (Studying Chinese Purpose):

Eligible Persons: Foreign nationals who intend to stay in Taiwan for no more than 180 days.

II. Resident Visa (Studying Chinese Purpose):

Description: Foreign nationals who arrived on visitor visa for studying Chinese purpose, completed 4 consecutive months of study at the Language Center, enrolled for an additional 3 months or more, and whose hours of absence not exceeding a quarter of total class hours, may apply to transfer to a resident visa at the Bureau of Consular Affairs no later than one week before the duration of stay expires. Applicants must apply for Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and Re-entry Permit at the local service centers of National Immigration Agency within 15 days from the Resident Visa issuance date. Duration of stay is noted on the Alien Resident Certificate.

Apply for Visitor Visa

Step 1 – Obtain Admission Letter from the Language Center

Please visit our website and download the application form for foregin students: https://clc.yuntech.edu.tw/en/download.html
After application is approved, the Language Center will send out the admission letter by email.
*Please notify the Language Center in advance if you wish for the admission letter to be collected by a relative/friend or courier company on your behalf.

Step 2 – Apply for Visa

1. Visit “Visa Application Forms” website to fill in your details, print out the forms and documents with the barcode provided.
2. Visit your nearest R.O.C. (Taiwan) embassy or overseas mission to apply.

Documents should include:

● The original and one photocopy of the Admission Letter issued by the Language Center
● Visa Application Form
● The original and one photocopy of Proof of Financial Support (such as proof of bank account balance, proof of foreign remittance
● The original and one photocopy of passport (Your passport must be valid for no less than six months with an adequate number of empty pages)

Step 3 –Apply for Visitor Visa

1. Apply for visitor visa in accordance with the semester you intend to attend.
2. Apply for visitor visa for Chinese learning purpose (FR visa) by indicating the Division of Chinese as a Foreign Language Program, the Language Center, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology

 

If you need to postpone your study, you may apply for delayed admission from the Language Center.

 

Apply for / Transfer to Resident Visa

Step 1 –Please pay tuition fees and apply for relevant documents at the Language Center

【Handling Procedures】
1. Pay the tuition fee for the next semester
2. Apply for two copies of “Certificate of Enrollment” and “Attendance Record”

Step 2 –Go to the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to apply for visa transfer

**Those who intend to apply for visa transfer should bring the following documents to the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs no later than two weeks before visa expiration:

Required Documents

Description

One copy of Visa Application Form. Pease affix two 2-inch photos that are taken within 6 months. Please visit the website Visa Application Forms to fill out the details. Print out the application form containing the barcodes provided. Confirm the details and sign the form. Photos must be taken with a white background.
Original and one photocopy of the passport Passport must be valid for at least 6 months and contain adequate blank pages.
A photocopy of the passport bio-page including the passport holder’s picture is required.
Original and one photocopy of health check examination (1) The health certificate should be issued within 3 months by a local or foreign hospital designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Health certificates issued by foreign hospitals must be authenticated by a R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.
(2) Please refer to the Centers of Disease Control website for examination items and examination hospitals.
Original and one photocopy of Certificate of Enrollment and Record of Registration (1) The Certificate of Enrollment and Record of Registration issued by the Language Center.
(2) The Certificate of Enrollment must indicate completion of 4 months of study and registration for continued study of 3 months or more.
(3) Hours of attendance must not be less than 15 hours per week between Monday and Friday.
Original and one photocopy of Attendance Record Hours of absence, including those taken on a leave, must not exceed a quarter of total class hours.
Original and photocopy of transcripts A transcript for the duration of study is required.
Study Plan Study Plan should include applicant’s motives for learning Chinese and their research proposal.
Original and one photocopy of Proof of Financial Support Such as proof of bank account balance, proof of foreign remittance.
Other supporting documents To be decided on a case-by-case basis. Applicants who apply for Resident Visa after having arrived in Taiwan are required to also submit one photocopy of their Visitor Visa page and the immigration entry stamp.
Applicable Fees Resident Visa fees – NT$2,200
Special handling fees for visa transfer – NT$800
Reciprocal handling fees – NT$4,480 (only applicable to US passport holders)

 

Notice
  1. According to the Statue Governing Issuance of ROC Visas on Foreign Passports and common practice, the Republic of China (Taiwan), visa issuance is an act of sovereignty. The R.O.C. (Taiwan) reserves the right not to issue a visa and is under no obligation to disclose the reason. Application fee for no-issuance cases is non-refundable.
  2. Processing of Resident Visa application inside the R.O.C. (Taiwan) requires 8 working days. Resident Visa applicants are advised to submit their applications to the Bureau of Consular Affairs no later than 8 working days before the duration of stay expires. In the event that the required documents are not submitted in full within 7 days after the applicant is informed by the Bureau of Consular Affairs, the application will be declined and fee will not be refunded. In the event that the duration of stay of the applicant’s original Visitor or Resident Visa expires while the Resident Visa is under processing and eventually rejected, the applicant is to assume sole responsibility of overstay and the penalty therefore imposed by boarder control and immigration authorities of the Ministry of the Interior.
  3. Original documents are to be returned after review.  Documents produced outside of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) must be authenticated by an R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.  Documents that are in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a Chinese- or English-translation version.  The original-language documents and the accompanying Chinese- or English-translation version must be authenticated by an R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.
  4. For visa application fees, please refer to Standard Fees for Republic of China (Taiwan) Visas in Foreign Passports.
  5. Foreign nationals who enter the R.O.C. (Taiwan) without a visa or with a landing visa and those who enter on a Visitor Visa that is not for the purpose of studying Chinese may not apply for a Resident Visa or an extended duration of stay on the ground of studying Chinese.
  6. Obtaining a school admission permit does not guarantee the issuance of a Resident Visa. Obtaining a Resident Visa does not entitle the visa holder to enter the R.O.C. (Taiwan).

 

Step 3 –Apply for Alien Resident Certificate at the National Immigration Agency

Foreign nationals who enter Taiwan on a Resident Visa or obtained a Resident Visa after having arrived in the R.O.C. (Taiwan) must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate and Re-entry Permit at the local service centers of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days from the day of issuance or arrival. (Those who fail to comply are subject to a fine of NT$2,000-10,000)

Remarks:
  1. Processing of Alien Resident Certificate takes about 10 working days. If multiple re-entries are required, please submit your request upon application.
